The company Energy Snina will put into operation a new woodchip-fired thermal aggregate with installed capacity of 16 MWt. Peter Bencurik, spokesman for the group Slavia Capital, of which Energy Snina is a member, said that the company is currently preparing trial operation of the aggregate. It should start regular operation in October of this year; total investments in woodchips production and the new thermal aggregate reached SKK 152 million (EUR 5.054 million). The new technology will secure annual production at about 270,000 GJ of heat and 10,000 MWh of electricity from renewable sources. At the same time, CO2 production will be reduced by 30,800 tons annually. Energy Snina has already launched production of woodchips. In the first half of this year, it made 5,628 tons. Its production thus doubled from last year. Slavia Capital bought all energy assets from the company Vihorlat, s.r.o. Snina in October 2005, which it operates within the newly established company Energy Snina, a.s. The company is an important regional heat supplier to households and also sells heat, electricity and water to corporate clients.
